Hi Barney. My name is Gracie Louise "Jacque" Mc Farmland. I'm 1 year old
today and Mom plans to have a Birthday Party for me tonight. I'm going to
have a cupcake and my brother, a Great Dane, will join in the fun. His name
is Herkie and he is black. He will turn 4 on Saturday. I think you are real
cute!! I must confess that members of my family went to Harvard, but I
could probably sneak away to see you. Maybe we can meet on a balcony.
Sounds like fun!!!

Much Love~~ Mz. Gracie Louise

Arrrrroooooo and Happy Birthday Gracie Louise,

Thanks for visiting Bushy Barney and writing such a
cute note. (Barney takes compliments modestly but a
quick wag-of-the-tail gives him away:) The balcony
sounds great! Barney will now sing the birthday song:

Happy birrrrrrrthday to yoooooooooou,
Happy birrrrrrrthday to yoooooooooou,
Happy birrrrrrrthday dear Gracie (and Herkie),
Happy birrrrrrrthday to yoooooooooou!

From: "Madeleine Kahan" To: bushybarney@yahoo.com Subject: from your half-sister Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 Hi Barney--I'm your sister, Mackenzie. We have the same dad (Kelly). I was born on April 30, 1999 in Livingston, New Jersey. I am a pretty special girl and now I feel even more special to have a brother in the White House. You are so cute and you seem to be having so much fun as the first dog. I have a brother named Newland who is not a Scottie--he is a wire haired dachsund who only tolerates me some of the time. I would love to make a play date with you. We both have great lawns so we could play at my house or yours--although, Pennsylvania Avenue looks pretty swank! You probably have great snacks. My owner's name is Madeleine Kahan and she would love to accompany me on this playdate. Let me know when the next family reunion is. Hope to see you soon! -- Mackenzie Kahan Arrrooooo Mackenzie, Thanks so much for dropping by the Bushy Barney Web site and taking the time to write a nice note, half-sis. Being an older gal, Barney's wondering if you have any tips on White House-breaking. He has to go down the elevator--and it's a mightly long trot, which means accidents will happen. But long hallways are perfect for frapping. A playdate sounds like fun and you being kin and all means security shouldn't be too much of an obstacle! --BB

We are so happy there is a First Scottie! We think you are much cuter than that plain old brown Buddy! If you need any pointers on diplomatic etiquette just ask my brother, he's a prince so he knows all that stuff, he's also five years old and has lots of experience. His whole name is Prince Maxximillian deMalta, my name is Cammeron Seamus McMeverden. Here's a picture of us visiting a nursing home (I like to visit the lonely old folks, they give lots of pets and loving) Sincerely, Cammeron and Maxxie Cammeron and Maxxie
Aroooooo Cammeron and Maxxie, Thanks for dropping by Bushy Barney's Web site and taking the time to write such a nice note--from kin of royals no less! Keep up the good work at the nursing home. --Bushy Barney P.S. Thanks for the wonderful picture. Will be sure to post it on the BB Web site soon.

Date: Mon, 26 Mar 2001 From: "D'Ascenzo, Christine A." Subject: Welcome Wee Laddie To: bushybarney@yahoo.com Hi There Barney Bush! Maggie McTavish and Angus 'puppy boy' McTavish here. We want to welcome you to the joy of Scotties. Our Mam's and Dad's are very special people. Our Mam has a calendar with Fala from the FDR days. We are, of course, Republicans through and through. We hope that you enjoy your growing up days @ The White House. We live in Galveston Texas. Nothing better than Texan Scotties getting together and having some frapping good times. Do you frap with Spot? Frantic/Frenzied Random Activity Periods. We have woobies all over our house. They are stuffed toys or bears or such that are our friends and then for some unknown reason they become evil and must be destroyed! That includes squeakers and eyes and noses. Then they are our friends again. We hope to visit your website often and see how you are doing. You look quite dapper with your new hair cut. We hope it wasn't too tragic an event for you. You will become accustomed to the routine as the months go by. Our "parents" are so proud when we come home from the groomers and EVERYONE thinks we are so CUTE! hehehehehehehe We know that you have met BrEwsTeR Wynne. He is a special boyo. He has 5 brothers and sisters and mom and dad. We used to have Miss Scarlett (Maggie's mom) and Lizzie ( Angus' mom) and ScottMan Vollert (Maggie Dad) and Mac ('puppy boy's' dad). We have lost them to cancer and to old age. We will send a current picture to add to your collection. Enjoy these days my little boyo; they pass all too soon. Just think - the sooner you are "potty trained" the sooner you can have free run of the house. Will you sleep with you Mam or Dad. We vote for your Mam, Laura - you seem to like being in her arms. Scottie Hugs and Kisses, Maggie and 'puppy boy' McTavish with our Mam Christine A. D'Ascenzo Aroooooo Maggie and Angus, Thanks for dropping by Barney's Web site and taking the time to write such a nice note from Texas... Hope you got to check out Bushy Barney's Fala page, which will soon be growing along with stories about other Scotties and White House pets from the past. --BB
Date: Mon, 26 Mar 2001 To: bushybarney@yahoo.com From: caius Subject: Hello from Julie, a Glen of Imaal Terrier Dear Barney, In this house, all of us were delighted to see the return of the Terrier tribe to its rightful place of First Dog. I am not a Scottie, but an Irish relation, a Glen of Imaal Terrier, blue brindle in color, often mistaken for a Scottie by humans who cannot tell that I weigh 32 pounds, have rose ears, and "Queen Anne" legs. Barney you are the first Terrierist since Kennedy's Welsh, who followed of course Harding's Airedale, Hoover's Irish Terrier and FDR's Scottie, Fala. In administrations subsequent to JFK, the Presidents did not have the good taste to choose a Terrier. Johnson had Beagles whose ears he is famous for pulling. The last occupant of the White House was not much interested in dogs. He preferred interns (and other puppy-humans) with hair the same color as yours. But when he got caught, he took a poll and discovered that Labs were the most common breed in America, and so he got one. You will have a wonderful life. I would suggest that you give up the "freedom to soil" sooner than I did, even if it is a Terrier tradition to grasp this late in puppyhood. Good luck! Terriers forever! from Kallington's Dame Juliana of Caius ( named for Dame Juliana Berners, 13th century English prioress, whose book on hunting with dogs was the first one printed in English [15th century] written by a woman! ) But please, Barney, call me JULIE ! My humans are Andrew Nadell and Eleanore Ramsey. We live in San Francisco.

And we're so-o-o glad to have a scottie in the White House. We live in western N. C. and really have fun here. Maybe you could come to visit sometime and see the deer and chase the squirrels and rabbits with us. Are there any animals for you to chase there? Have you been able to get rid of the security people yet? Have you had any Frosty Paws? We hope that you can find time to visit some of the scottie sites on the net. I'll bet you're really busy though trying to keep everyone straight there and letting them know that you're around. It's been a long time since we have been honored to have a scottie in high places. Sending big a-roo-oo-s to you. Have you gotten to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom yet? Love, Skara Brae, Dundee, Skye, Ebonye, Kellar, and Mattie http://community.webtv.net/sprinklescots/FortheLoveofScotties Aroooooo Skara Brae, Dundee, Skye, Ebonye, Kellar, and Mattie, Thanks to all of you for dropping by Barney's Web site. To answer your questions: Waiting for warmer weather to try the Frosty Paws. The only animals to chase are the odd squirrel, Spot, and a few two-legged ones in suits. Lincoln Bedroom's off limits until Barney finishes training. --BB
From: "Pam Ryan-Orchard" To: bushybarney@yahoo.com Subject: G'Day from Australia Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2001 G'Day Barney from Australia, We are all excited down here in Australia to have another Scottie in the White House. My mom is coming to Washington in August and would be thrilled even to catch a glimse of you at home. Enjoy your new home don't be too good, it's not Scottie like and don't forget "selective hearing" is great if you don't want to come when they call you, it makes them give you extra attention. We keep watching for you. Regards Brae, Vinnie, Mortimer and George Aroooooo Brae, Vinnie, Mortimer and George, Barney will be on the lookout for you come August. Maybe you'll "spot" him digging in the Rose Garden!
